A grass fire near Nathalia has been brought under control on Tuesday afternoon, but not before it destroyed a variety of property.
Emergency services were called to the grass fire — which threatened nearby houses — at Peter Clay Rd, Nathalia at 12:28pm on February 7.
Sixteen CFA vehicles and crews responded, supported by firefighting aircraft.
Firefighters worked to control the fire, which was brought under control at 1:32pm and deemed safe at 2:28pm.
While no houses were lost, eight vehicles, one boat on a trailer, a ride-on mower and a 10x6m shed were destroyed during the blaze.
The fire is believed to have been caused by farm machinery performing slashing works in a paddock.
This incident serves as a timely reminder to ensure machinery, such as slashers, is routinely maintained, and moving parts and bearings regularly inspected and cleaned.
