Those using public transport on New Year’s Eve will be able to get about more easily and cheaply, with free travel for the night.
Victorian Public and Active Transport Minister Gabrielle Williams announced the free travel across all metro and regional trains, trams and buses.
Passengers using V/Line services still need to book their New Year’s Eve travel on reserved services but will be issued a ticket free of charge.
No ticket is required for regional bus travel.
And those using trains and trams in Melbourne will not need to tap on with the Myki card.
The free travel will start at 6pm on Sunday, December 31, and run until 6am on Monday, January 1.
Ms Williams said celebrating with family and friends was incredibly important at this time of year, and providing free travel across the state would make it easier for all Victorians to catch up with loved ones.
