Members enjoyed learning about how the old mill crushed the grain and how the property was run self-sufficiently.
The remains of the two-storey mansion, mill, gatehouse, stables, sheep yards and various sheds gave attendees an overview of the lifestyle of years gone by.
Enjoying morning tea in the sunshine and listening to head keeper Neville talk about the history meant much was learnt about the property.
This was followed by lunch at the Railway Hotel at Murchison East, then on home through Rushworth, where an ice cream was enjoyed by all to finish the day.
A group of members also recently enjoyed a movie day, seeing Unsung Hero, then lunch afterwards.
With many more trips planned, our social calendar is being filled.
Rochester Probus Club is a social club for retirees or semi-retired people over 55, who believe in fun, friendship and fellowship.
Members meet at the Rochester Senior Citizens room on the first Monday of the month, at 10am, with the next meeting on July 1.
People can come along and hear from interesting guest speakers and take advantage of the book swap, with many varied books for members to take and enjoy reading.
If anyone wishes to come along and see if this group suits you, we allow people to come to a couple of meetings to try it out and enjoy the friendly atmosphere, meeting, cuppa and a chat.
Inquiries to Joan Jenkins on 0458 953 933 or have a chat to one of the members you know.
