AusNet has announced a $17 million investment to duplicate the Benalla-Euroa power line, after nearly a year of community advocacy for improvements.
The announcement follows several upgrades that have been recently completed across the Euroa region, including removing hazardous vegetation, animal proofing, and installing technical equipment to improve the reliability and safety of the power line.
State Member for Euroa, Annabelle Cleeland, welcomed the upgrades and news of a second power line.
“I’m so proud of what we have achieved as a community,” she said.
“The relentless advocacy of our residents has ensured our towns are getting the attention and power reliability they deserve.”
Alongside the duplication, AusNet also announced a proposed $17 million project to construct an express power line from Benalla to Euroa that will be submitted to the Australian Energy Regulator.
“I am thrilled to be hearing that a second power line is being proposed,” Ms Cleeland said.
“This is something our community has been requesting for the better part of a year, and it is so satisfying to see this advocacy be rewarded.”
AusNet will seek feedback on the proposal for the second power line before submitting it to the Australian Energy Regulator.
