Green Routes Community Group Chairman John Lawless and Robert Purtle OAM travelled to Narrandera October 29 for the meeting and came away pleased with the response.
“It was a very positive meeting,” Mr Lawless said.
“Both the minister and the regional director showed real interest and a desire to learn a lot more about the battle to get the green route (alongside the existing railway line over Lake Mulwala) for the new bridge to be accepted.”
Mr Lawless said both the Minister Aitchison and Ms Ffrench were keen to see planning start for the new bridge start with the Strategic Crossing Report and business case being finalised at the moment.
Mr Purtle said he was also very happy with how the meeting went.
“It’s the first positive move forward since both states agreed on the green route for the new bridge crossing in December 2021,” Mr Purtle said.
“We also invited the minister to the current bridge’s centenary celebration to be held on December 15, 2024, but unfortunately, she had a prior commitment for that weekend but is going to try and get someone else from the NSW Government to attend.”
Both Mr Lawless and Mr Purtle agreed the trip to Narrandera was worthwhile and can report back to the people of Yarrawonga Mulwala that the minister and regional roads director are keen to get the planning for a new bridge started.
