Kyabram police are asking drivers to be cautious on the road following a recent spike in alleged traffic and drink-driving violations.
Acting Senior Sergeant Dale Simm said police had noticed an increase of traffic offences and drink-driving in the past few months across the shire.
On Friday, February 7, a 46-year old Barmah woman was charged with drink-driving and had her vehicle impounded and driver’s licence immediately suspended.
Sen Sgt Simm said when the woman was pulled over do a breath test, she allegedly blew 0.151 — more than triple the legal blood alcohol concentration limit.
The woman will face court at a later date.
On Thursday, February 13, a 42-year old Echuca man was caught driving a truck at 116km/h — 16km/h over the speed limit — on the Northern Hwy just outside Rochester.
Leading Senior Constable Scott Jones said the man was fined.
Sen Sgt Simm urged drivers to be extra cautious while driving through intersections around Kyabram.
He said drivers should slow down when approaching intersections — even if they have right of way — and be cautious if a car is approaching the adjacent road.
“Be careful going through intersections on those major roads,” Sen Sgt Simm said.
