The inaugural Deniliquin Poker Run is being hosted by the Deniliquin Motorcycle Riders group next Saturday, March 29.
Visiting a number of venues across the Edward River Council footprint, participants can bring their own motorbike or car, or can jump on the shuttle bus for an additional fee.
At each of the five venues, you’re allocated a card out of a traditional deck. At the final stop, the person with the highest poker hand value will win.
But there’s plenty of other chances to win, with a number of raffles throughout the day.
Deniliquin Motorycle Riders members Adrian Dario and Greg Huddle said it will be a fun and family friendly day, with the primary aim of raising funds to support locals with cancer.
“The run departs the Edward River Hotel (Buncha) at 10am on the Saturday, and then travels to the Pretty Pine Hotel where the first of the raffles to be held throughout the day will be held,” Mr Dario said.
“We’ll then continue on to the Conargo Recreational Reserve where the hall committee will cater lunch, then on to the Blighty Hotel.
“We will finish back at the Buncha to conclude the day.”
Mr Huddle said the event and the travel route have been coordinated with Deniliquin Police, and stressed that all participants must adhere to regular road rules and be responsible for themselves.
Deniliquin Can Assist members will be helping the Deniliquin Motorycle Riders throughout the day, and president Kellie Crossley said everyone hopes the event will be the success they anticipate it will be.
“We are so grateful that people want to give back to Deniliquin Can Assist to help us support locals with cancer, and this group is quite passionate about giving back.
“The Conargo Hall Committee has also offered to donate everything they make from the lunch to Can Assist.
“Our volunteers will run the raffle at each venue, and I believe the organisers already have more than $5000 in sponsorship and prizes.”
During lunch, participants will have the opportunity to learn more about the role of Deniliquin Can Assist.
It includes sharing the real life example of breast cancer patient Breannon Davis, who will attend with her family.
The fee to participate in the Poker Run is $25 per person, with an additional charge of $10 for anyone wishing to take the bus.
Bus seats must be pre-booked. To book, or for more information about the event, call Jenni on 0408 546 293.
