Take, for example, FOOTT’s Shepparton depot serving Victoria’s Container Deposit Scheme (CDS Vic).
Since the scheme’s launch in November 2023, the depot has become the fifth most popular drop-off location across the state and the second highest in regional areas.
Over 23.5 million eligible drink containers have been returned, according to the company, resulting in residents and community groups collectively receiving $2.3 million in refunds.
Under CDS Vic, community members get a 10 cent refund for every eligible drink container returned.
FOOTT chief executive Andrew Yeoland expressed pride in the community’s response, highlighting the environmental and financial benefits for the region.
“It is incredible to see how well Shepparton and the surrounding areas have embraced CDS Vic,” he said.
“Millions of containers are being kept out of landfills, and local communities are also being supported, whether that be through individuals collecting refunds or community groups fundraising.
“We continue to see how CDS Vic is making a difference, and we are excited to continue providing this service to the region.”
Residents, charities, and community groups are encouraged to take advantage of the program by returning eligible drink containers to their nearest CDS Vic FOOTT depot.
