‘’Our Campaspe is welcoming, inclusive, and diverse. Our People are supportive, resilient, and thriving. Our Places are vibrant, healthy, and sustainable. Stronger Together, like the three rivers flowing through our shire.’’
Held over Friday, March 21 to Sunday, March 23, 35 participants of differing ages and genders represented a snapshot of the shire, coming from Echuca, Kotta, Tongala, Echuca Village, Yambuna, Rochester, Kyabram, Lancaster, Wyuna and Roslynmead.
The panel engaged in discussions, information sharing, presentations, question and answer sessions, voting and prioritisation.
They provided information and feedback to council about community identity and priorities.
Their insights will shape the new Council Plan 2025-29, which Cr Mackrell is looking forward to developing with the councillor group.
‘’The panel determined how they would work together as a group and how they would reach consensus on a decision, and they decided that a 75 per cent super majority was required,” he said.
‘’I am incredibly proud of the work done by the citizen panel. Their commitment to understanding and addressing the needs of our community is inspiring.
‘’We also had some great feedback from the panel that it helped them gain a much broader understanding of how council operates and how their vision will assist with the formation of the council plan.’’
To create the panel, 8000 letters were distributed across the region, with 122 people expressing interest.
The 35 participants were selected through a democratic lottery organised by the Sortition Foundation to gather a broad range of shire representatives.
Council also held discussion groups with youth and First Nations people in February and March, along with a shire-wide survey.
Draft versions of the Community Vision 2040 and Council Plan 2025-29 will be open for residents to contribute to later in the year.
