Our own Goulburn Valley Water captured the spirit of 2020-21 with a front cover that rivals abstract expressionist painter Jackson Pollock. Lots of masks, people going in all directions and a little bit of remote working tossed in for good measure.
Like Pollock’s Blue Poles, it will divide opinion, but Oddie is a fan.
Water businesses are thirsty work
It didn’t take long for someone to point out this one.
Water companies report how much water they consume, which allows Oddie to find some fun facts like the thirsty folk over at Coliban Water consuming 45 times as much as Melbourne Water office staff.
Oddie assumes that has something to do with city folk loving bottled water while country folk like it straight from the tap.
For each full-time equivalent staff member the city folk consumed 0.10 kilolitres while at Coliban Water it was 4.5kl.
Goulburn-Murray Water folk used a healthy 25kl per FTE across 15 offices but not even Oddie could gulp down 10 litres every working day, so this includes everything from the garden beds to the cisterns.
How many square metres of water can you drink?
So, back to the GV Water employees in Fryers St who have the best water in the country to gulp; where did they rank?
Oddie is sad to inform readers thirsty for another factoid that it is impossible to work out.
Staff were so scattered with the pandemic that they instead reported consuming 179 litres per square metre of office space.
The figures included the public hydration station installed in front of the office — which was also underutilised with so many CBD regulars working from home.
Office consumption was down 70 per cent on the previous year.
