The annual apprenticeship program offers candidates a chance to become lineworkers, cable jointers, substation electricians or meter technicians.
Positions for the four-year apprenticeships are open in Shepparton and Echuca, as well as Burnley, Brooklyn, Geelong, Ballarat, Bendigo, Colac, Mildura, Warrnambool, Maryborough, Horsham and Kyneton.
Powercor head of operations and delivery Barry David said it was the only opportunity to join a Victorian electricity network business directly as an apprentice lineworker.
“Our apprenticeships provide the best start to what can be a fulfilling and lifelong career,” Mr David said.
“Our team supports our people to grow and build new skills and knowledge in this exciting field.”
To apply, candidates must have completed, or be completing, Year 11 VCE or VCAL and achieved a pass in General Maths/Numeracy or have completed (or be completing) a pre-apprenticeship TAFE training course in Electrotechnology (Cert II).
Real estate options up despite new listings being down
According to PropTrack data, prospective property buyers are faced with more choice than this time last year — especially in regional Victoria.
Overall — despite a usual seasonal slowdown seeing new listing volumes down 15 per cent from May to June 2024 — Australia’s total listings were 7.3 per cent higher in June 2024 than June 2023.
In regional Victoria, new listings were down 18.5 per cent from May to June this year (and -0.8 per cent year-on-year) but total listings were up a whopping 25.9 per cent in June this year compared to June last year.
Regional Victoria was second nationally in that figure, behind only Canberra (29.2 per cent).
