Committed to their business, committed to the community and committed to cars.
But now they’ve committed to each other.
In 2023, Jaymie and Sam started their own business called Manifolds and Mullets Mechanical — and it has been a wild ride.
“It’s been crazy,” Sam said.
Jaymie agreed.
“No bad times at all, which has made it enjoyable and made us want to keep going, which is good, but it’s just been wild,” she said.
One of the benefits of being your own boss, Jaymie said, was being able to spend time with her kids, whereas Sam had most enjoyed getting to know the people who come through their doors.
“When we were working, they’re just with us,” Jaymie said.
“That’s cliché, but it’s true.”
“The amount of people we’ve met through this, it’s been astonishing,” Sam said.
To cap off their first year of car servicing, fixing and business, they planned a celebration.
“We had amazing cars, from old-school to new-school, some crazy cars came through and even better people,” Jaymie said.
“We were just so blessed everything just actually worked out.”
On Sunday, December 8 they hosted the celebration, with ice-cream and a sausage sizzle for family and friends and the Shepparton Search and Rescue team, who showed the kids around their vehicles.
Sure, one year of being is business is something to celebrate, but little did Jaymie know, she would be leaving the day with a ring on her finger.
“I had the ring for a little bit and I knew I had this day and all our friends and family, it was about the only time when I knew that they were all going to be at the one spot and the people who we knew that we trusted and that cared for us,” Sam said.
The moment had come. He’d set it up perfectly. The ring was in his hand, his knee was getting closer to the group and the cameras were ready.
“And then Jaymie’s like, ‘oh, let’s go take a photo in front of these cars over here as well’,” Sam said.
The pair got another photo with Jaymie’s kids and some cars in the background.
“I was just sort of like, ‘right, kids, you hop away now, so it’s just me and Mum’, and then hopped down on the knee and waited for an answer,” he said.
At this point, Jaymie was still none the wiser.
“I thought he wanted me to sit on his knee for a photo and I was thinking, get up, don’t embarrass me,” Jaymie said.
“It took me quite a while to realise what he was doing, and then I was like, ‘oh my god’.
“I thought I was going to vomit, and he actually said to me, he said, ‘please don’t be sick on me right now’.”
She did eventually say yes by nodding her head while the people she loved looked on.
One of those people was Mark Rumble.
“Jamie and Sam come along to our church, and they’re just a terrific young couple,” Mark said.
“It was just a lovely day and it (the proposal) was a complete surprise to everybody. It was just absolutely beautiful.”
Since getting their new bling, Jaymie and Sam have been living the engaged life — and so have Jaymie’s kids.
“It’s actually so cute,” Jaymie said.
“The kids love it, they’re absolutely obsessed.
“We are a family, but I feel like it cements our journey going forward a bit more.”
In terms of wedding planning, Jaymie dove straight in, with the Pinterest app making up a lot of her screen time.
“I said, let’s at least get a vision board because we’re definitely country people. So we’re thinking Western style, and we want those old trucks,” she said.
