Yarrawonga Friends in Common (YFIC) is a committee of volunteers who provide friendly and caring support for people undergoing cancer treatment as well as providing financial assistance.
Through community fundraisers and donations from caring locals, YFIC assist not just those who are undergoing treatment but also those caring for them.
That is why Old Skool Riders Social Club President Steve ‘Docko’ Docking and his club members decided YFIC was the perfect candidate for their next fundraising ride.
“Friends in Common is a voluntary group but they help so many people,” ‘Docko said.
“We will fundraise for more community organisations in the future but Friends in Common was an easy choice for our second fundraising ride.
“The work they do is unbelievable.”
To assist in raising money for this great cause, the Old Skool Riders Social Club are hosting another fundraising ride, the Roll the Dice ride, on Sunday, August 27, starting at the Yarrawonga Hotel.
‘Docko’ said the social club want to continue to assist members of the community while doing something they love, riding their motorbikes.
“A group of blokes would get together and just go for a ride every few months but then we decided to make a club of it and to start doing something to help the community,” owner of the Uppercut Property Maintenance ‘Docko’ said.
“While I am president of the club, we will continue to hold fund runs to help those who are suffering.
“In December we did the ride for ‘Stumpy’ (Corey Phillips), a young local bloke who was diagnosed with stage four aggressive terminal brain cancer at the age of 23 to help with the medical expenses.
“We had a great response and raised $3368.50 with Stumpy now a member of the Old Skool Riders Social Club.
“If we can assist in a small way like that, then why not.”
The Roll the Dice ride will comprise of both motorbikes and cars which will travel approximately 130kms with the route to be disclosed on the day.
At the moment the route is looking to make its way through Wangaratta, Rutherglen and Bundalong and will see registrations from 10.30am – 11.15am at the rear of the Yarrawonga Hotel with the run to start at 11.30am sharp.
“The route we take isn’t 100 per cent set in stone but we believe our current planned route should be ok and the ride is going to happen regardless of weather,” Docko said.
“Both cars and bikes are welcome, and we would love to see a great mixture come along and get involved.
“We are going to have three stops along the way with one or two raffles held at each stop and several held back at the Yarrawonga Hotel at the end of the day with participants in the running to win all day.
“We are expecting around 100 people on the day but would love to see others get involved.
“We have had interest from as far as Bendigo in terms of hot rods and Melbourne with motorbikes.
“A small added incentive is that we will also have event specific stubby holders available on the day for people to purchase with the funds raised going to FIC.
“We would also like to give a massive thank you to all of our sponsors, Murray Valley Tyre and Auto, Nagle’s off the Hook Butchery, Yarrawonga Locksmiths, Watts In Bundalong Café, On KEW Bookkeeping, AGP Painting, North East Mini Diggers and Landscaping, Crusty Loaf Bakery, Yarrawonga Automotive, Deltec Battery Centre, Judds Yarrawonga Workwear and Uniforms, Yarrawonga Hotel, Woodland Glass and Aluminium, Premix King Liquor and Uppercut Property Maintenance.”
To be involved, it is $25 entry per head with three hotel/cafe stops which will each have several raffles drawn to win vouchers from numerous local business with major raffles to conclude the day at the Yarrawonga Hotel.
Raffle tickets will be $10 for five with prizes to include vouchers from: Yarrawonga Hotel, Caffeine Machine Rutherglen, Smoko Shed, Bi-Rite Yarrawonga, Yarrawonga News and Gifts, Nagles off the Hook Butchery and Bundalong Tavern with some interest still in vouchers.
“Thank you to everyone for their involvement and we hope we can raise a great amount for this worthwhile local cause,” Docko concluded.
