The report shows a 24.5% increase in rural road emergencies attended by Ambulance Victoria since 2018-19.
During the same period, urgent Code 1 incidents rose by 38.5%, underscoring the growing challenges faced by rural communities.
State Member for Shepparton, Kim O’Keeffe, has linked these figures to significant reductions in road maintenance funding.
“The condition of regional roads plays a crucial role in keeping regional road users safe,” she said.
“While there are a range of factors that contribute to road incidents, safe infrastructure should be a priority and sadly that’s not the case across our state.”
Ms O’Keeffee said last year saw a significant drop in road maintenance works in regional Victoria.
She said current funding is not adequate to meet demand.
“Travelling across our region shouldn’t be a constant case of dodging potholes and rutted pavements,” she said.
“The shocking state of regional roads hurts productivity for our economy and creates a dangerous environment for road users.”
Ms O’Keeffe has raised concerns over the deteriorating condition of key roads, describing several major roads in the region as needing significant upgrades to meet minimum safety standards.
“Major roads like the GV Highway between Nagambie and Shepparton are in terrible condition with the left lane virtually undriveable in parts,” she said.
“Arterial roads like Echuca Rd and Katamatite to Shepparton Rd require significant work to meet minimum standards.
“These are just a couple of examples of the extensive neglect of our roads.
“Labor can’t manage money, can’t manage regional roads and regional Victorians are paying the price.”
