Officer Cadet Veal recently graduated from the Australian Defence Force Academy, among 270 Navy, Army, and Air Force comrades.
His journey, which began in 2021, unfolded over three years, combining military training and university courses, resulting in a Bachelor of Science.
Originally from Kialla, Officer Cadet Veal’s dream of becoming a pilot was inspired by his great-grandfathers’ service in the Army.
While studying, Officer Cadet Veal assumed the captaincy of the ADFA Cougars cricket team, showcased his versatility on the netball court with the ADFA Mustangs, and delved into the outdoors as a member of the Camping, Boating and Fishing Club.
Eventually, Officer Cadet Veal’s leadership journey at ADFA reached new heights when he became the Cadet Captain in his division, which allowed him to practise skills learned at ADFA as it allowed him to work closely with the divisional staff.
Officer Cadet Veal emphasised the profound impact the institution had on him.
“My time at ADFA, including the opportunities to improve leadership skills and take on additional responsibilities, has helped develop my character, and at the same time, I’ve learned a lot about how Defence actually works,” he said.
Officer Cadet Veal’s enthusiasm for learning is evident.
“I really loved my time at ADFA,” he said.
“Completing single-service training at RAAF Base East Sale has kept me keen to pursue my pilot career. I’m eager to get into the workforce.”
Officer Cadet Veal’s personal highlights were the friendships made along the way.
“Making life-long friends and the close connection you forge with so many people has been amazing,” he said.
“The opportunities you have to learn and lead and the friends you make can’t be matched elsewhere.”
As Officer Cadet Veal prepares for an interim posting at East Sale before embarking on formal pilot training, his story resonates as a testament to the spirit of ambition and camaraderie.
