A woman has been arrested after a violent scuffle at Chemist Discount Centre Seymour on Tuesday, July 25.
Seymour police were called to the Station St chemist at 4.50pm after a store manager noticed the woman’s erratic behaviour.
The two police officers attempted to arrest the women, who was allegedly trying to leave the store with a basket of items that were unpaid for.
The woman allegedly resisted arrest and became violent. Police say they used a baton, capsicum spray and taser in an attempt to subdue the woman; however, they were not immediately effective.
Only one prong of the taser made contact with the woman, police said, rendering it ineffective.
Both police officers were injured in the incident. One officer was allegedly bitten by the women, resulting in puncture marks in the skin.
Both police officers were treated at Seymour Memorial Hospital and later released.
The woman will undergo a mental health assessment before the expected charges of theft and assault of an emergency service worker are laid.
There was no injury to bystanders or staff members at the store.
