As one of the first schools in Australia to take on the production, a crew of more than 80 students is excited to bring the hit movie to to the local stage.
Notre Dame college productions director Casey Fogarty said the production was a wonderful opportunity for the students to develop their performing art skills.
‘‘It’s such a unique opportunity to be part of one of the first amateur productions of the show,’’ she said.
Ms Fogarty said the students had worked hard across the past 10 weeks, learning new instruments specific to their characters, as well as choreography and their lines.
‘‘It’s been a journey and the students have wowed me and exceeded my expectations,’’ she said.
‘‘We have an amazingly talented cast who have thrown themselves fully into this show.’’
School of Rock is a two-hour, two-act musical based on the hit movie.
The story follows Dewey Finn, a failed, wannabe rock star who decides to earn an extra bit of cash by posing as a substitute teacher at a prestigious school.
There he turns a class of straight-A pupils into a guitar-shredding, bass-slapping, mind-blowing rock band.
Notre Dame College student and performer Sarah Anderson said the show was a must-see for families, particularly due to the band performing live on stage.
‘‘This show has had countless hours of hard work and dedication put in by students and teachers alike, and is overall just a very entertaining story,’’ she said.
‘‘It’s a fun, hilarious feel-good show that will have everyone smiling.’’
School of Rock is on at Riverlinks Westside, on the corner of Homewood Dve and Echuca Rd in Mooroopna from, Thursday, July 18, to Saturday, July 20.
All three performances start at 7.30pm and tickets cost $20 and are available through Riverlinks.
