The awards recognise the contributions of people and groups in areas including sports, disability and community services, youth or seniors’ programs and the arts, and are the highest council-bestowed honour.
All nominees must live in Campaspe Shire and can be nominated in the categories of Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year and Community Group of the Year.
The award ceremony will be held the week before Australia Day, with all nominees and nominators invited to attend.
Campaspe Shire Council director communities Jo Bradshaw has encouraged nominations so that hard-working individuals can be recognised.
“We know there are so many people who make a huge impact on the communities they live in through volunteering across many areas whether it be sports, arts or other community services,” she said.
“We want to make sure these local heroes are given the recognition they deserve.”
In 2024, Don Hicks OAM of Echuca won Citizen of the Year for his services to sporting and community groups and in 2022 Mick Simpson of Kyabram took out the honour for his contributions to dementia support and awareness, and volunteering.
Nominations can be made online or hard copies can be downloaded from the council website or picked up from their customer service centres in Echuca, Kyabram, Rushworth, Tongala or Rochester.
Applications will answer the question: ‘why are you nominating this person or group?’ with a minimum of 100 words and maximum of 300 words.
A separate document of up to three pages can be included with extra information, as well as details or copies of other awards or supporting documents like photos, newspaper or magazine articles.
