Hosted by the newly formed Upper Murray Quirky Events, a variety of creative works will be on exhibit from patch work to paintings, mosaics, and even crafty contributions from the local Men and She Sheds.
Upper Murray Quirky Events President Lesley Starr said it was an opportunity for local artists and crafters to showcase their talents, and unlike a typical art show, without being judged.
“We are bringing something new to the region for not only locals but also our visitors,” Ms Starr said.
“There isn’t anything like this in the area, and so we hope the community gets behind and supports the event.
“We are hoping to get a variety of works on display. During the pandemic, we know local creators kept painting, drawing, sewing, and making wonderful hand-crafted creations. The works submitted will be available for sale at our exhibition too.”
A prominent feature of the exhibition will be Michael Mack’s extraordinary model railway exhibition.
Lilliput Miniature World is a large model railway constructed in the early 1970’s. At the time, it was the largest portable ‘N’ gauge model railway and toured all over Australia.
Mr Mack told the Free Press he and his wife Annette purchased the model railway in 1992 and commenced a major restoration effort. It became part of a major tourist facility in Jervis Bay where the Mack’s lived prior to retirement in Corowa.
“We are restoring it for a second time ready for January’s exhibition,” he said.
“It’s proving to be a massive challenge as only part of it can fit in our shed. The other major challenge will be moving it to the hall.
“It will be the first time in 12 years it has been fully assembled. When fully operational 14 locomotives can be run on six mainlines and the two branch lines.”
The Art, Craft and Model Railway Exhibition is the inaugural event for Upper Murray Quirky Events Inc. The committee, formed out of a local art and craft group, are set to host many other exciting events in the region for the benefit of the community.
The exhibition will run daily from January 7 to January 15, 10am-5pm, at the Odd Fellows Hall Corowa. The exhibition will also have two late nights (Wednesday and Friday) opening until 8pm.
