It’s been a project many years in the making, and now the students and staff at Blighty Public School have a new outlook.

The school’s beautification project was completed late last year, and officially opened this month.
Principal Leanne Hedt said the school community was joined by the many individuals and groups assisted in the planning, construction of the project for the ceremony.
The new look playground now includes new sandpits with edges to roll cars on, balance on, sit and read with a friend.
There’s also a rolling hill, an imagination window, new scooter paths and widened walking paths, new garden beds and plantings along the front fence.
Also creating intrigue is the 2021 Birdhouse Project initiated by student Emma C through the Parliament process of the school, Daisy the Cow decorated by the 2020 Year 6 students, and a refurbished cubby house.
“The children were surprised on the day of the official opening to receive new sandpit toys, and have been enjoying them ever since,” Ms Hedt said.
“The vision for this project began years ago and was completed at the end of last year, thanks to the initiative, planning and hard work of many individuals and groups.
“I want to say thanks to the P&C for working together to plan the ‘next step’ after they successfully sought a grant and oversaw the main playground to its completion.
“Afterwards they were eager to create stage two. They were able to obtain a $3000 grant from community to put towards the paving.”
Ms Hedt said so many people had a hand in the creation of the new project, including local businesses, community members, staff, and current and former students.
The students were given a chance to be hands on with the project, helping to get many of the new plants in the ground.
She said they also helped with a little bit of gardening to ensure the playground was ready for the official opening.
