The organisations made the announcement last week, with the Rochester resident continuing to follow her passion for working with youth.
She has worked in the Campaspe region for the last 20 years, attracted to the role which was advertised last year by its strong youth connection.
She will be project manager for the Echuca Moama Beacon Foundation, which supports youth in the region to make informed choices around future education and employment.
It also encourages youth to make a commitment to personal development.
She will also work with the five participating schools in the Real Futures Program, St Joseph’s at Echuca, Echuca College, Moama Anglican Grammar, River City Christian College and Echuca Twin Rivers Specialist School.
Each year Beacon leaders are selected at all five schools and these students run events throughout the year, representing their schools in the community.
Among these events is the upcoming Beacon Business Breakfast, which will be held on March 30 at Radcliffe’s in Echuca.
Ms Elms will also take a leading role in the Campaspe Youth Partnership, where she will lead in supporting the MATES Mentoring Program across the Campaspe Shire and Cohuna.
MATES is a school-based mentoring program where community members are matched with a student and meet weekly during school hours.
The program was launched by Youth Partnerships in Kyabram in 2015 and has since been welcomed by schools across the region as a fantastic add-on support for students.
Like many things, the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted the program, however Ms Elms is confident that it will be back up and running again in the first term at most schools.
“Our young people have some amazing ideas and insights. With a little encouragement they can be impactful in a very positive way.
“We can learn a lot from our young people and I am very excited to be able to work alongside our new Beacon leaders and looking forward to learning from each other,” she said.
