Wodonga Raiders 9.14-68 defeated United 1.0-6
Goal: Evelyn Niedzwiedzki.
Best: Ella Nixon, Blaize Seymour, Ella Pund, Hannah Loughnan, Chelsea Hopwood and Angela Skipper.
The United Under 14 girls came up against the ladder leader in Wodonga Raiders on Sunday at Whorouly.
The final score in the game did not reflect the huge amounts of effort, enthusiasm and encouragement the girls brought to the game.
The score didn’t show the pressure the girls put on the opposition which made the Bulldogs players earn every possession and making it hard for them to find a clear passage of play.
Both teams battled hard in the first quarter but a few good passages of play saw Wodonga score two goals. It was the same story in the second quarter but an improved effort after half time saw many forward entries for the United girls and eventually a goal by Eveyln Niedzwiedzki.
The strong midfield brigade of Ella Nixon, Hannah Loughnan, Lauren Jewitt, Shaye Power, Blayze Seymour, Chelsea Hopwood and Amelie Thompson again worked hard for most of the game.
United’s defence held up well with Ella Pund and Matilda Afloft sending the ball back into the midfield many times. Jordan Adrien was also prominent and later in the game went into the midfield to pick up one of the Bulldogs stronger players.
Lexi Nagle presented well all game and young Ang Skipper played her best game of the season putting her body on the line on countless occasions to win the ball.
Overall, it was a sound performance from the whole team who are showing improvement every week.
United now look forward to a stronger game against Wangaratta Rovers at the JC Lowe Oval at Yarrawonga this Sunday.

The Under 17s played their best game for the season at Whorouly on Sunday against the Wodonga Raiders who narrowly beat them by one-point last time they met.
The coaches asked for a four-quarter solid team effort on Sunday and that’s what the girls delivered.
The Raiders were no match for this improving team who were slick, quick and ultimately determined to show the competition what they can do as a United team.
From the first bounce United’s newly found pressure was too much for the Raiders who turned over the ball countless times, allowing United to send the ball into their forward line multiple times.
A 25 to 0 scoreline at the end of the first quarter told the story for the rest of the game as United went onto win every quarter coming out eventual winners by 58 points.
Matilda Lyons, Mackenzie Winnell and Tayla Power were relentless in their pursuit of the ball all day. Bella Browne was everywhere capitalising on the loose ball and hitting the scoreboard at every opportunity. Sam Peppler was prominent overhead and winning most of the ruck contests.
Holly Jones and Tiajade Charles provided great options up forward.
The backline pressure was most impressive all day with Ella Bradley, Tahlia Newnham, Zoe Bagley providing great drive out of defence.
It was a fantastic four quarter team effort by all the girls who now bring great momentum into Sunday’s game against Wangaratta Rovers at Yarrawonga.
