While the town is serviced by one bus to and from Wangaratta every Wednesday Mr McCurdy is pushing for more.
“The small town of Glenrowan is famously known as the town where the Ned Kelly siege took place all those years ago, yet this small town has been left off the map when it comes to public transport services,” Mr McCurdy said.
“For instance, the north-east train line from Melbourne to Wodonga no longer stops in Glenrowan, making the need for bus services even more paramount.
“The solution is simple; the services are already available through the Greta West Primary School bus route, this service now just needs to be utilised.”
“I ask the Minister for Public Transport to enable this change to allow for the empty bus to instead be used by Glenrowan residents, specifically elderly residents to commute to Wangaratta and back without having to drive themselves.
“This solution would be an ideal mode of transport for residents of Glenrowan and help them get to and from Wangaratta without any hassles.”
Mr McCurdy said he would keep the local community members of Glenrowan and Wangaratta updated once a response was received from the Public Transport Minister.
The use of school buses in regional Victoria was tabled in Parliament in November 2021 and is being reviewed.
A state government spokesperson said it regularly reviewed public transport services.
“(We do this) to ensure we’re delivering the best possible service for the community,” the spokesperson said.
“We will continue to look at ways to improve public transport in north-east Victoria and will communicate with the community ahead of any proposed changes.”
