The rebirth of Corowa’s iconic billy cart championships over Easter has sparked interest throughout Australia.
“It’s all progressing very well,” Corowa Lions Club President Stuart Whisson said. “We’ve had interest from all over town and out of town.
“Sydney, Brisbane – everyone’s very vibrant about the championships.”
Corowa Lions Club is conducting the event which was held for some 20 years, attracting crowds of up to 5,000 people, before the Covid-19 pandemic forced the cancellation of the event in 2020.
Words have been flying around locally that challenges between organisations will take place at the 2025 championships.
There’s talk about Corowa Men’s Shed taking on Wahgunyah Men’s Shed. “And Ben Wilson of Corowa VRA Rescue has issued the challenge to Corowa Police,” Mr Whisson said. That challenge will be accepted according to Corowa Police Sergeant Steve Marshall.
This spectacular event does, however, require volunteers to run and some more volunteers are needed for tasks including putting the hay out to separate carts from spectators and turning the carts around at the bottom of the hill. All enquiries to 0418 330 833 would be welcome.
