The mural, painted by local First Nations artist Tammy Atkinson, depicts the Murray River as well as indigenous animals.
Attendance and wellbeing lead teacher Daniel Coombs was pleased with the new mural.
“It’s nice to have something vibrant and that celebrates culture in (our) school,” he said.
“We were looking for a local (First Nations) artist, and also we wanted to make sure that we represented both Yorta Yorta and Bangarang (groups) within a picture, so we used an animal to represent both,” he said.
The students were involved in the mural’s creation, as they chose the animals and submitted designs to Ms Atkinson, who used their designs and her own to create the final piece.
“We’re trying to make it an attractive place and a better learning environment,” Mr Coombs said.
He said the school was fortunate to have received funding for the mural from The Apprenticeship Factory, which also sends two apprentices to work as education support at the school each year.
Chief executive Paula Ryan said the reason for donating the money to the school was because each year The Apprenticeship Factory had a ‘giving back to the community’ project, and this year the team felt the mural was “a very good community activity”.
This is the second mural at the school that highlights culture.
At the beginning of 2022, a multicultural mural was painted.
