Mulwala pool to receive big upgrades

But “ugly duckling” slide likely to go

Substantial improvements to the tune of $484,950 to Lake Mulwala Pool and surrounds at Apex Park Mulwala will be undertaken by May 2024.

Federation Council staff have been successful in receiving the big grant under the NSW Department of Planning and Environment’s Places to Swim Grant, as advised at council’s latest monthly meeting on March 28.

Cr Andrew Kennedy said the park needs a lot of work.

“The pool is in the lake and it will be great to see the improvements which will make it easier for a lot of people to use,” he said.

Replacement of pool safety railings and entry ladders, disability access, site and safety fencing, rescue and resuscitation equipment, lighting, park furniture and shade structures are among the improvements which will result from the grant.

“The water slide is probably going to have to come down,” Cr Kennedy said.

Council’s General Manager Adrian Butler reluctantly agreed, referring to the slide as “the ugly duckling” at Apex Park.

A lot more people than not would love to see the water slide, a town icon of yesteryear, resurrected.
