Mueller missed most of this season with broken bones in his foot and ankle, but is confident he can get through the cricket season and be ready to resume his stellar career with the Bombers next season.
Bombers coach Paul Newman said the club was stoked Mueller had recommitted and was keen to continue playing with the club in its rebuilding phase.
Newman said the only regular Kyabram senior player who was on the move was key defender Jack Sheldon who had told the club he would join his brother Tom and cousin Sam — all former Kyabram players — at Moama next year.
Sam coaches Moama where other former Kyabram premiership players in Josh Vick and Josh Pell also play.
The Bombers have regained former triple premiership player Liam Ogden for next season and are pursuing another one or possibly two recruits to add to its armoury.
But Newman is pinning his hopes that a lot of younger players who have been blooded during the past two seasons will take a step up to keep the side competitive against the best in the league next season.
Cupido re-appointed
Girgarre Football Club has reappointed Damian Cupido as captain-coach for the 2023 Kyabram District Football League season.
In his first season at the club the former Essendon star led the Roos into their first finals series for 21 years this season and showed the way with a century of goals.
Club president Matthew Graetz said Cupido had been reappointed on a one-year basis.
Graetz said the club was talking to several prospective recruits who could hopefully help the club go deeper into the finals series next season.
“It (this season) was our first finals appearance for a long time and that was good, but it must be remembered it was a final eight for the first time and we are looking to improve on that (8th place) next season,” Graetz said.
While Cupido has been locked in as senior coach again there will new coaches for the club’s reserves and thirds teams.
Rory Young is stepping down from the reserves coaching role and thirds coach Paul Parsons is also taking time off for family commitments.
Brunskill re-appointed
Murray Football League club Cobram has reappointed John Brunskill as non-playing coach for the 2023 season.
Brunskill has unfinished business at the club after coming up agonisingly short of this season’s flag, beaten by three points by Mulwala in a water-logged grand final at Moama.
Keam’s new role
History-making Moama Football Club coach Shannon Keam has been appointed the new coach of Heathcote and District League club Leitchville-Gunbower.
Keam will be a non-playing coach on a one-year contract.
Keam led Moama to its first flag in the Murray Football League in 2010 during a three-year coaching stint with the club.
A footy journeyman Keam has coached his own club Dimboola, Robinvale and Cohuna and has also coached at junior level at Moama and with the NSW Giants academy.
With Leitchville-Gunbower winning one game in the past two years the club is hoping Keam will be the man to lead them out of the football wilderness.
Good and bad news
There has been some good and bad news for district sporting groups keen to stage events at the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
The Shepparton region will play host to a festival of cycling, which includes road racing time trials for women and men and also BMX racing.
But Nagambie has missed out on staging rowing events with the state government confirmed rowing will not in the list of sports to be staged at the Games.
Flat-water rowing will be replaced by coastal rowing, which will make its Games debut at a yet-to-be decided seaside location.
