A total of 78.2mm of rain fell on the town for the month — more than twice the average April rainfall for the past 26 years of 35.4mm.
Much of this year’s April rainfall fell on a single day — with 40.8mm recorded in the 24 hours until 9am on April 19.
This was the highest daily rainfall for the month in two years, with only the 48.6mm on April 30, 2020, higher.
While rain fell on 10 days this year, only two saw more than 10mm. The other was on April 30, when 10.6mm fell.
The number of rainy days this year was almost double the average for April, with Bureau of Meteorology figures for the past 26 years showing rainfall on an average of 5.5 days for the month.
While there was a lot more rain than usual this year, it was still a far cry from the 132.4mm for the month in 2020.
Daytime temperatures in April this year were close to average, with a mean daily top of 22.5°C, up a mere 0.1°C on the historical average for the month.
The hottest day was on April 17 when the mercury rose to 29°C, while the coldest day was a cool 16.7°C on April 19.
The hottest April day on record occurred in 2018, when the temperature reached 35.1°C, while the coldest occurred in 2008 when the temperature dropped to a chilly 11°C.
At 10.9°C, April night-time temperatures this year were 2°C above the historical average.
The warmest night-time temperature was 15.9°C on April 18, while the coldest was 6.9°C on April 14.
The warmest April night on record in Shepparton was 21.7°C in April 2018, while the coldest one saw the temperature plummet to -1°C in 1978.
