Police are asking motorists to tell them about problem sections of road in the Region 3 Eastern Division police district, which includes Greater Shepparton, Mitchell Shire and Benalla Rural City council areas.
Region 3 Eastern Division Highway Patrol Senior Sergeant David Gillespie said Operation Lookout 2 would run for all of August.
Sen Sgt Gillespie said police wanted to hear about any sections of road or intersections in the region that people had concerns about or ideas of how to make them safer.
“With so many intersections or roads, the community who use them know more about them than police,” he said.
“People may have concerns about how an intersection is set up, where there are signs or not, and they have have concerns with a road needing barriers.”
Sen Sgt Gillespie said people should contact their local police station and speak to police there about their concerns.
Information would then be passed on to him to collate.
He said some of the information would be used by police to take to discussions with roads major stakeholders including Regional Roads Victoria, local councils and Parks Victoria.
“It might just be the idea they (motorists) provide leads to infrastructure work there and a bit of money is spent,” Sen Sgt Gillespie said.
It is not the first time police have asked the region’s residents about road issues.
A similar operation was conducted in 2018.
“Last time we had some good feedback,” Sen Sgt Gillespie said.
“If we don’t ask, we won’t know.”
