Ms Waters purchased some items from different stalls at the market and with every purchase she received a ticket that went into a larger raffle box.
The mother of three sons and seven grandchildren said she was blown away when her name was called out and announced as the winner, because she hadn’t won any competitions in a while.
Ms Waters was also amazed by the amount of produce that was in the hamper.
“It was filled with all manner of things — coffee, a bunch of beautiful flowers, pumpkin, zucchini, avocados, three kilograms of organic honey and organic olive oil,” she said.
“We’ve already started using all the fresh produce items and we’ve got the flowers on display in the house for everyone to see.”
Newly-appointed president of the Echuca Farmers’ Market, Ian Harley, said it was the first time the market had run a competition for Mother’s Day.
“The new committee has been running the market for about two months now and we’ve really been trying to re-invigorate the market by introducing new concepts and activities that the community get involved with,” Mr Harley said.
“We had an Easter bunny and egg painting at our Easter market, we’ve had a petting zoo there for the kids and now we’ve done the Mother’s Day hamper.”
Mr Harley said the Echuca Farmers’ Market committee was working towards facilitating more giveaway competitions and planned activities in an effort to make the market more diverse.
Market organisers are currently trying to arrange for staff and animals from Kyabram Fauna Park to come and show off some animals to the kids, along with getting some staff members from TwistED Science to do some demonstrations.
