Greater Shepparton City Council announced on Wednesday, February 28, that the memorial on McLennan St, Mooroopna, had clearly been deliberately vandalised by an unknown individual or group.
Council said three “digi-glass” panels had been damaged with rocks, a rose bush had been snapped off and two light poles had been kicked over and destroyed.
Acting parks, sport and recreation manager Steve Wilson said council was extremely disappointed by the vandalism.
“This memorial is so important to not only the Mooroopna community but the Greater Shepparton community as a whole,” he said.
“To damage memorial panels that honour the soldiers and servicewoman from the World War II, Vietnam and Korean wars is bitterly disappointing.
“We urge anyone who witnessed the vandalism or has further information to contact the police.”
