Sandbagging efforts have been taking place across Mooroopna since Friday, and following the closure of the causeway between Shepparton and Mooroopna on Saturday night, the majority of work has been done by volunteers.
After relocating from Mooroopna Recreation Reserve, volunteers, alongside some council workers, have been filling up sandbags at Ardmona Resource Recovery Centre since Sunday.
Other volunteers have taken it a step further and are delivering sandbags around the area in canoes and by four-wheel drive.
A Facebook page, 'Mooroopna Sandbaggers', has been created to assist with sandbagging in Mooroopna.
Steve Threlfall is one of the volunteers at the forefront of this operation.
“We’re just doing what we can with what we can. We’ve been bagging for four days now,” Mr Threlfall said.
“The page is specifically for Mooroopna people who need immediate assistance with sandbagging.
“We’ll also help clean out people’s homes as flooding starts to subside, so it’s important people follow our page so they can request assistance if they need it over the following days.”
If you are unable to pick up sandbags and are in need of them, add your address on the Facebook page and whether you will need them delivered by canoe or a 4WD. Any sandbags for places with flooding above the knee will need to be delivered by canoe.
