The school surprised the students with the presents at the end of its final assembly on Friday, December 16.
“We were so excited to be able to bring a bit of magic to the students at Christmas,” school wellbeing co-ordinator Lisa Hueston said.
“For some it may be the only present they get, so to bring happiness and smiles to their faces is what it’s all about and why we do the things we do.”
The carefully wrapped presents were a Christmas hamper, containing Lego, biscuits and other treats.
Mooroopna Park Primary School principal Hayden Beaton said it was a great way to end the year and put a smile on students’ faces.
He said community support and the school’s sponsors were vital to keeping its wellbeing programs up and running.
“Everyday Supplies made it possible for us to put together these presents for the kids today but other support like Campbell’s, Unilever, Pental, Mission and Plunkett Orchards — our wellbeing program relies on the generous support from the community,” Mr Beaton said.
The final assembly for the year also saw awards for attendance and reading given out, with Mr Beaton revealing a much-improved attendance across the school in 2022.
“It’s been a tough couple of years with COVID so attendance is going really well and we acknowledged those students today — students missing only one day for the year is pretty good,” he said.
“I think everyone’s looking forward to school holidays but it’s been a really great year and kids are excited to be at school, which has shown with attendance.”
Next year, Mr Beaton said the school was excited to be growing, with nearly 130 students and the opening of its new bike safety course.
