Last October, Victorian Emergency Services Minister Lisa Neville said the state government was also considering CCTV cameras and motion-activated lighting, but last week, the security fence had been approved.
Member for Northern Victoria Wendy Lovell said she was happy to have pushed for funding to install the fence and keep the Mooroopna community safe.
“Mooroopna CFA members, like all firefighters around Victoria, are heroes in their respective communities and I welcome this project that will provide volunteers with the level of protection they deserve while they protect the people of Mooroopna,” Ms Lovell said.
“We’re hoping the upgrade will provide the same quality as Shepparton’s fire station, and will provide security for members’ vehicles and the members themselves.”
Earlier last week, Ms Lovell raised safety concerns in Parliament as several incidents and thefts had occurred around the Mooroopna Fire Station.
Mooroopna First Brigade First Lieutenant Warren Cartwright said last Easter that several items had been stolen from the station.
Ms Lovell said it was hoped the security fence would be installed “very soon”.
“The Firefighter State Championships are coming to Mooroopna on February 28 and 29, so it’s hoped the fence will be up by then,” she said.
