Originally dedicated on April 25, 1928, the cenotaph and grounds now include the names of all veterans from the Mooroopna-Ardmona districts who served in all conflicts since World War I. The refurbishment also includes honour boards recognising the indigenous men and women who have served, as well as nurses who who have served overseas and those who attended to the returned servicemen at the former Mooroopna Base Hospital.
Bold new digital-glass pictorials recognising the various conflicts since World War I have also been installed.
Rotary Club of Mooroopna member and Anzac Day service co-ordinator Glenn Young said the refurbished cenotaph and grounds had drawn a steady stream of visitors since their recent completion.
“It now stands proud as a memorial to all of those who have served,” Mr Young said.
He said Federal Member for Nicholls Damian Drum would officially re-dedicate the cenotaph shortly before the Anzac Day service on Sunday.
Mr Young said a march would commence at 8.45 am from the old Mooroopna water tower in McLennan St. Marchers will arrive at the cenotaph at 9 am when the re-dedication will take place followed by the annual Anzac Day service.
