Moama beach prepares for higher water levels

Toilets, loose furniture and barbecues have been removed from Moama beach due to concerns regarding minor flooding expected in the upcoming week.

The removal which has been facilitated by Murray River Council was done after receiving advice from the Murray NSW SES.

“Unfortunately with the continued rising river level, council has made the tough decision to remove the toilet block, barbecues and loose furniture from the Moama beach,” the council said in a statement online.

“The main beach access road is now closed.”

“Once the high water levels drop, we will undertake safety inspections and complete any remediation works before we reopen the beach and access road.”

Relocation: Toilets, loose furniture and the barbecues were all removed by Murray River Council after receiving advice from the NSW SES.

NSW SES has said repeatedly that it is not expecting a repeat of the 2022 floods which hit the region.

“We will see the Murray River fluctuate in height over the coming week as inflows enter and we’re not expecting to see the Murray River reach flood levels as a result,” NSW SES Southern Zone Commander Benjamin Pickup said.

Not as severe: NSW SES says that although river levels are expected to get higher, they are not expecting 2022 levels.

“This will not be like the 2022 flood event as we are starting off without the Murray River itself being in floods so it has the additional capacity to take these inflows that are expected.”
