Sadly, they would lose their new pal shortly after meeting him.
After successfully adopting Harry, the couple headed to Bunnings next to Shepparton Marketplace to get supplies for their new furry friend.
It was there that Harry “got spooked” and ran off as the group walked to the car to head home.
Despite their efforts, Mr Blick and Ms Toms lost sight of Harry after chasing him for about 500m.
The couple was understandably anxious about the dog’s whereabouts, and put a post on Facebook asking the community to keep an eye out for Harry.
Mr Blick said it was especially challenging for them as they lived an hour away, so by the time they responded to a sighting of Harry, he would be long gone.
Harry’s previous owner had described him as a little shy at first but friendly once he got comfortable.
The couple had adopted Harry to give their current dog some company while they were away, deciding to adopt rather than buy a puppy to help provide a loving home to a shelter dog.
Although both were experienced dog owners, this situation was unprecedented for them.
They had never had a dog run away before.
The couple, along with concerned locals, searched high and low for Harry, and even put up flyers around the area in the hope of finding him.
As of Wednesday, April 12, Harry’s whereabouts were still unknown.
