MEAC overwhelmed with rubbish

Mooroopna Education and Activity Centre employee Carol Evans walked into work on Tuesday to a sight no-one wants to see.

“We came into work and there was a huge pile of rubbish,” Ms Evans said.

“At the MEAC entrance, there was just household rubbish and clothes.”

She wanted to remind the community of what services MEAC did and didn’t provide.

“We are disappointed,” Ms Evans said.

“We offer a lot of services, such as the food relief program currently, and it’s disappointing that people think that it’s okay to just dump us with this.

“To dump this level of rubbish at the tip it would cost money, so they leave it with us to avoid paying.

“But what that means for us is that we are paying the tip fee, which is money that can’t go to other services.

“We don’t have the capacity to deal with it.”

MEAC said that if residents were seeking to get rid of anything that was usable, they could to give it to a local thrift shop during its opening hours, and for everything else, take it to the tip.
