According to event co-director Lynda Barclay, this year’s Easter Saturday parkrun exceeded all expectations.
“Easter is always a big event for us, but this year was huge – we had 116 park runners and park walkers, up from our previous record of 77.
“This included many visitors to our town, who were full of praise for our course along the beach to beach walk.
“We also welcomed ex-locals who were back visiting family, as well as our regulars who form the backbone of our event.
“I would particularly like to thank our team of run directors, and all volunteers, who ensure that McLean beach park run occurs every Saturday of the year.”
McLean Beach parkrun began in Deniliquin in mid-2021, but has had a couple of lengthy stoppages since then due to both COVID-19 and then the floods.
But since then, there have been 149 weekly events.
According to Barclay, the local parkrun has truly been embraced by the community.
“We have had 4899 finishers - an average of 33 per week - and 128 people have volunteered their time,” she said.
“We have participants ranging in age from six years old, to many seniors.
“Participants can walk, run, volunteer or just spectate, and we would love to see you there.”
McLean Beach parkrun is held every Saturday, with the starting point at McLean Beach in west Denilqiuin.
Participants use the Beach to Beach walk as their route.
