After defeating Denmark 2-0 in the Round of 16 on Monday night, the Matildas secured a quarter-final berth at the side’s home FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Sam Kerr and her teammates will take to the pitch at Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium at 5pm on Saturday, August 12, and the match will be shown on a big screen at a Shepparton live site.
Greater Shepparton City Council will set up the big screen in the Multi-Purpose Pavilion at the Shepparton Showgrounds, with free entry to encourage as many residents as possible to cheer on the green and gold together.
“We all know the Greater Shepparton community is soccer mad and we couldn’t be prouder of the Matildas’ efforts so far,” City of Greater Shepparton Mayor Shane Sali said.
“We are looking forward to streaming the quarter-final match on the big screen in the Multi-Purpose Pavilion for people to come together and show their support.
“Instead of watching the game at home, we encourage people to come along and cheer on the Matildas on the big screen, which is sure to create an amazing atmosphere. We are looking forward to another exciting match.”
Doors will open at 4pm, with food trucks on site for attendees to purchase food and drink throughout the night.
Residents are also able to bring their own food and drinks, but strictly no alcohol can be consumed on site.
Parking will be available at the Showgrounds for attendees, with entry via Fryers St.
