After six years as officer in charge of Mathoura Police Station, Snr Constable Chris Matthew has obtained a new posting on the south coast.
Chris and his wife, Jacinta, have been involved in the local community during their period with us, and have many friends.
We wish the couple and their children — Parker, Hugh, Seth and Isla — all the best in their new surroundings.
Parker and Hugh, who are renowned for their amazing goal shooting skills at Mathoura Public School, will certainly be missed by their fellow students.
Good luck to you all.

Sunday will be a special day for the most important person in most people’s lives – their mum.
Mother’s Day is arriving at an opportune time, just as COVID-19 restrictions are beginning to lift.
While not perfect — with only a small number of family members permitted to visit at any one time — a little bit of organisation should allow mum to catch up with all her brood through staggered visits throughout the day.
Happy Mother’s Day to all mums, I hope you all have a great day.

It’s that time of year again — the time when an organisation which is renowned for helping others needs some assistance.
The Echuca Moama Salvation Army has launched its annual fundraiser this week.
But the Red Shield Appeal 2020 campaign, in the middle of the Coronavirus, will be like no other.
The pandemic and the impact it has had on the local community makes it more urgent and even more difficult, because the well known face to face doorknock cannot be conducted.
Consequently the Salvos have moved their appeal online to do a virtual ‘doorknock’.
Help can be provided in two ways.
Community members can log on to https//digitaldoorknock.salvationarmy.org.au/t/echuca-moama-salvos and make a donation, or sign up to be a fundraiser through the link and invite your family and friends to donate to the local Echuca-Moama area, which includes Cohuna and Mathoura.
The Salvos do a fantastic job helping the less fortunate in our community, so I would encourage everyone to do all they can to help them reach their $12,000 goal.

The Coronavirus has prompted many changes in our lives, not the least of which are new recipes.
Everywhere you turn chefs and home cooks are demonstrating skills designed to assist with feeding the mob.
However, we must remember not to over-do our eating, otherwise we may end putting on a little bit too much weight during our isolation.

And talking house – did you know the Big Brother show will be returning to our television screens?
Well, if you didn’t you can’t be on the same planet as me.
There are five weeks to go for the return, but I’m over it already.

It will be back to school for at least some of the Mathoura Public School community on Monday.
The ‘Two Toms’ — Mr McIntrye and Mr Edgar — will be kicking off the new term’s one day of face to face learning program.
Mr McIntyre will have 10 Year 6 students under his wing, while Mr Edgar will be busy with 10 youngsters from K/1.
This will be followed on Tuesday by Miss Roberts with five Year 5 students and Miss Joson with 11 from Year 5.
Wednesday’s attendees will be 10 students from Year 3 with Miss Roberts, and seven from Year 2 with Mr Edgar.
The school will also remain open on Thursdays and Fridays for essential workers, and students required to attend.
Home learning packs are being made available for students on the other days.
