For Shepparton’s Evelin Costa, the saying has taken on a whole new meaning.
Becoming a hit on video platform TikTok under the username ‘makeupbyevelin’, she’s known for her videos of transforming herself into celebrities, her followers and on occasion even her partner, all with the power of makeup.
All of which helped her achieve the massive milestone of hitting one million followers on the platform on Thursday, December 16, a feat that left her in awe.
“I never thought TikTok would turn into this,” Miss Costa said.
“I can’t believe a million people from all over the world have found my videos entertaining enough to follow me, I appreciate them so much.”
While the rise in followers came quickly, Miss Costa’s love for makeup grew steadily.
Taking up the tools at the age of 15 in her spare time, her passion for makeup grew through applying looks on her friends for fun and completing a diploma in beauty therapy, before flourishing into her own business.
Around Shepparton, the name ‘Makeup by Evelin’ grew at a fast-pace, painting the faces of debutantes, graduates and a multitude of others on her growing list of clients.
While the glammed-up looks are still a large part of her business, it’s Miss Costa’s out-there creations that are now turning heads and gaining views.

Joining TikTok in August 2019, she was no stranger to making video content, having been on YouTube for years prior and filming looks for her own Instagram business page.
The idea of trying something new ignited her creative flair once more, so she made her first video, not expecting much to come from it.

“I initially thought, ‘this looks fun’, so I think the day I downloaded it I made my first video and not long after I had a couple of videos go viral, one being turning myself into Peppa Pig,” she said.
“It was only this year really that my account grew a lot; I think I started this year on about 200,000 followers. People love the celebrity transformations and the ‘turning myself into my followers’ series I’m doing.
“I never ever thought I would gain this many followers — I honestly just love making videos and doing makeup, so TikTok is perfect for me.”
Gaining confidence with time on the app, Miss Costa soon found her niche in recreating celebrities with her talent, resulting in some eerily similar side-by-side results, along with becoming Aussie icon Kim Craig from Kath and Kim, and Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews during his “get on the beers” era.

Among the TikTok star’s famous creations, a video of her transforming into her partner Ryan Evans gained a whopping 11 million views, while another, becoming Miley Cyrus, attracted 10.8 million.
With her growing following, Miss Costa said the platform had helped her achieve opportunities she otherwise might not have had the chance to pursue.
“TikTok has allowed me to work alongside brands I know and love on exciting campaigns and events, which is amazing and so much fun,” she said.
While her online profile has taken off, Miss Costa is still following her passion by doing clients’ makeup, a way to “break up the crazy looks” she’s doing on herself. But what’s to come in the future is anyone’s guess.
“It’s still nice to be able to do some normal glam looks on others for events, now they can happen again,” she said.
“I never thought I’d get to a million followers but now I’ve hit that goal I don’t know what’s next for me.
“It was a bit unexpected but that’s the thing with TikTok growth, it can happen so fast. I’ll just keep creating and see where it takes me!“
