ENH manager Sarah Peake said they had a number of exciting events organised.
“Term two is generally one of our bigger terms of the year because we have Neighbourhood Houses Week running from May 9 to 15, we have National Volunteer Week from May 16 to 22 and we are also hosting a Biggest Morning Tea event on May 19, as well,” Ms Peake said.
“Over the course of these weeks, we will be holding events at the ENH to acknowledge the contributions that our house and our volunteer staff make towards the community.”
During Neighbourhood Houses Week, there will be an open-house afternoon tea on May 9 from 1pm to 3pm to celebrate.
Other specific celebratory events are yet to be announced.
Ms Peake said these events would happen alongside the regular programming schedule, which includes crafting, creative writing, tai chi/qi gong sessions and meditation lessons.
Pre-accredited courses, such as digital essentials, literacy and numeracy classes, are also available at the house.
“People have been incredibly isolated throughout the whole pandemic,” Ms Peake said.
“The activities and classes that we offer to the community gives people the chance to re-engage and re-connect with people.
“At ENH, people don’t even need a reason to come in and socialise with our lovely volunteers.
“People don’t realise that you don’t have to take partake in any of the activities if you don’t want to — you can just call in, wander the garden or read the paper over a cup of coffee.”
Ms Peake said if people were not interested in signing up for activities but still wanted to help out the community, there were plenty of ways to help through ENH.
“We always welcome donations of food and toiletries,” she said.
“We run a showers for homeless program, which we have found is really starting to ramp up due to the lack of rentals available in the community, at the moment.
“This is a service that we need a significant amount of toiletries for and are always happy to accept donations for.”
Community members can also drop off their home-made baked goods to the facility on particular days. These baked goods are then delivered to people in palliative care.
