Challenges faced by men in regional areas, such as isolation, financial pressures and the stigma surrounding mental health, can often prevent them from seeking help.
In Australia, 75 per cent of those who take their own life are men, which translates to three in four suicides being men.
Strathbogie Shire Council has committed to breaking down barriers and ensuring men in the community have access to the support and resources that they need.
Strathbogie Shire Council Mayor Claire Ewart-Kennedy said the event is an important step in the council’s efforts to support rural men and strengthen community resilience.
“Mental health is just as important as physical health, and we need to ensure our country blokes feel supported,” Mayor Ewart-Kennedy said.
“This event is about starting conversations, breaking down stigma, and reminding our rural men that they are not alone.
“Attending Are You Bogged Mate? is an opportunity for the men in our community to gain valuable insights into recognising the signs of being ‘bogged’ and understanding the steps toward recovery.”
Are You Bogged Mate? will be presented at the White Hart Hotel in Longwood on Friday, March 21 from 5pm to 7pm.
Dinner will be provided and drinks will be available at bar prices.
