Kyabram Fire Brigade’s 131st annual meeting was held on December 3 at the Parklands Golf Club, commemorating another year of safeguarding lives and property.
Captain Tom Druggan expressed his pride in the dedication of volunteers, highlighting their swift response to 153 fire calls throughout the year.
He thanked the families of the volunteers, acknowledging their sacrifices in supporting their loved ones’ round-the-clock commitment, ensuring the continuation of their 131-year legacy.
Commander Paul Elso spoke about the upgrades to the Kyabram fire station and congratulated the members receiving service awards, including those who recently received the National Emergency Medal for their service during the 2019 fires.
CFA service awards were presented to Merv Close for 55 years of service, Rob Lennie (40-year service award), Mick Crompton (35-year service awards and National Service Medal Clasp), Tony Owen (35-year service award and National Service Medal Clasp), Wayne Peterson (25-year service award) and Renae Flemming (10-year service award).
Mr Druggan also presented brigade awards for specific contributions made by volunteers to the Kyabram brigade.
Allan Weeks was named the Fire Person of the Year and was awarded the Protected Community Award for highest turnout to fire calls, totalling 101 calls across the year.
Kim Morrison received the John Roberts Memorial Trophy for his “outstanding contribution” to the Kyabram Fire Brigade.

Renee Webb was awarded the Lieutenants Award for her outstanding growth and commitment as a newer member to the brigade.
The night was also a chance to acknowledge the teamwork of members and wider brigades from Wyuna, Tongala, Girgarre and other fire brigade members.
