Welcome to the latest instalment of the Echuca Lions Club’s monthly round-up, titled Lions Roar.
BRILLIANT BARBECUES
Hold tight - we’re checking permissions before loading more content
The Echuca Lions Club provided our barbecue and did the cooking for the staff of Echuca Regional Health for their Christmas break-up.
The day was very well attended with many of the staff tucking into the tasty snags and burgers cooked on the barbie.
The Echuca Lions also did the cooking for the Echuca Neighbourhood House’s special Community Christmas Barbecue held on Friday, December 9.
More than 150 community members turned up and tapped into the holiday spirit at the event, which was planned two weeks prior.
RAFFLE DRAWN
We had the drawing of our Xmas Trailer Raffle, in its 21st year.
The raffle was once again very well supported by local people.
All funds go back into the community.
The winner was Iris Hicks.
Congratulations Iris.
CHRISTMAS LIGHTS CHARITY COLLECTION
The Echuca Lions Club again organised the Illawarra Neighbourhood Christmas Lights charity collection on the corner of Illawarra Dve and Butcher St, Echuca, on the four nights leading up to Christmas.
This year, the event raised $3645.
As in previous years, the residents of the IIlawarra Dve neighbourhood excelled in the decoration of their homes with Christmas themes, which were a delight to the many visitors, especially the children.
The event has been a great success, running for more than 15 years, with more than $50,000 raised to date going to local charities.
Sponsorship also came from First National Real Estate, Charles L King & Co of Echuca.
Thanks to all involved.
SANTA LETTERS
Once again club members helped Santa deliver letters to children at Echuca’s primary schools and Berrimba Kindergarten.
More than 550 letters were sent to the children in answer to letters they had written to Santa.
MAGNIFICENT DONATION
Echuca Lions donated $10,000 towards playground equipment for children who are on site at Elmore on the Elmore Field Days site.
These are families who were affected by the floods which hit Rochester in October.
NEW MEMBER WELCOMED
At the last meeting of 2022, the Echuca Lions inducted a new member in Darryl Ronchi to the club.
The meeting was also highlighted by a speech made by the club’s inaugural president from 1965 in Max McKee.
Echuca Lions Club is always on the lookout for new members and would welcome any people thinking about being part of Lions.
If you would like to know any more about the Echuca Lions Club, you can email echuca.vic@lions.org.au or phone president Kevin Woolnough on 5482 4873.
