Lions Club members in Gunbower and Cohuna set up at local parks with tongs in hand for Australia Day celebrations.

From 7am at Felix L’Huillier Park, Gunbower Recreation Reserve, a community breakfast was held by local Lions.
Club secretary Jeanette Cowan said the Gunbower Angling Club had organised the event in the past, which had run for the past 20 or so years.
Ms Cowan said the Lions were happy to take over the event’s organisation to continue the tradition.
Mick Farrant was the event’s MC, and Cr Tony Marwood from Campaspe Shire Council was the guest speaker.
Chicken Dylan, Laurie Ford and Tony Williams were behind the barbecue, while Ms Cowan and Marg L’Huillier tended the serving station, among others.
Down the river in Cohuna, the Lions Club held a breakfast at Garden Park from 7.30am, followed by a flag-raising ceremony at 8.30am.
Club secretary Faye Donaldson said the 12 local members were always glad to cater for their community.
Northern District Community Health carer support facilitator Georgia Anderson was the event’s guest speaker, discussing her passion for Cohuna and her role, and the local challenges regarding access to childcare locally and the number of spots available for children.
Cr Keith Link of Gannawarra Shire Council commended Citizen of the Year Sandra Bennett and Young Citizen of the Year Rory Martin in a speech.
Cohuna Lions Club presented its Community Service Award to the Cohuna and District Historical Society, which was accepted by president Sheila Joss.
Both Gunbower and Cohuna Lions Club members said they were on the lookout for new volunteers, with expressions of interest able to be made online or in-person.
