Commencing Lent: St Augustine’s students come together to start off the season with Ash Wednesday.
St Augustine's College and Parish communities came together in the Brigidine Centre to mark the beginning of the Church's season of Lent on Ash Wednesday. The College Choir has expanded in 2023 and sang three songs, adding to the experience of the Liturgy. Nearly 30 student leaders spanning Year 4, Year 8 and Year 12 led the celebration. Everyone gathered received the ashes on their foreheads as an expression of faith and seeking forgiveness. College Principal, Jay Sutton, addressed the community and urged students to use their voices for good, to speak out against injustice and be people of social action.
Push to greatness: Students are encouraged during the ceremony to go out and be a positive role model in the community.

The Liturgy served as an opportunity to formally launch the College's awareness and fundraising campaign for Term 1, which is to support Caritas Australia's Project Compassion Appeal. Donations to Project Compassion allow Caritas Australia, the Catholic Agency for International Aid and Development, to work with local communities around the world to end poverty, promote justice and uphold dignity.
The theme of Project Compassion 2023 is ‘For All Future Generations’ and reminds us that the good we do today extends to impact the lives of generations to come. It invites us to make the world a better place by working together now and finding long-term solutions to global issues. This year the College has created three online donation pages and are waiting to see which of our Houses will raise the most money.
