She recently relocated to Deniliquin to take a teaching role with St Michael’s School Deniliquin.
She is the classroom teacher for Year 3.
“My partner has been here since June of last year, so that is why I moved here,” she said.
Ms Coates’ first experience of teaching was as an early childhood teacher for three years, after completing undergraduate studies in Early Childhood Education (Birth to 12).
Last year she taught Year 3 at St Gerard’s in Carlingford, North Sydney.
She finished the school year with them before reuniting with her partner in Deniliquin in early January.
And she has enjoyed her first two weeks at her new school.
“The biggest difference is the sense of community here.
“It’s such a close community here at St Michael’s.
“All the parents know each other, whereas where I’m from everyone does their own thing.
“It’s a very tight community.”
With an interest in netball, Ms Coates said she’s also learned a lot about both the Deniliquin Rams and the Deniliquin Rovers.
She said she is looking forward to the experience she will continue to gain in Deniliquin.
“Netball is exciting, and in the classroom I’m looking forward to becoming a better teacher and continuing to develop my ability to work with all different types of students.
“I really look forward to becoming a more well-equipped teacher by being here.”
