It is more difficult to stay on top than to get there, or so the old adage goes.
2022 will be a tough act to follow for reigning premier Lancaster, but coach Tom Davies isn’t letting the boys get ahead of themselves.
Lancaster enters this year’s competition as the team to beat, following a retention of players and the addition of some handy recruits.
“We’re still a young side, and we don’t want to put too many expectations on them, but every year the ultimate goal as a footy club is the grand final,” Davies said.
“We are in a good spot, retention of the players has been good, and we’ve added a few blokes on top of that, so we’ve definitely strengthened.”
Off the back of its seniors and reserves sides winning flags last year, and its thirds finishing runner-up, Lancaster’s football department is in the strongest shape it’s been in years.
Davies said that the side hadn’t lost anyone from the previous year as of yet.
“We’re hoping to see some of the younger players step up, because we know they can, and really just build on the foundation we’ve built in the last couple of years,” he said.
